Malvasia

Malvasia

The Malvasia is one of the most widespread white grape in the Mediterranean area.
There are different similar vines called Malvasia; its origin in Sardinia goes back to the Byzantine era, and certainly arrived in the isle by the landing places of Karalis and Bosa.
All experts in Sardinian enology agree to detect the great difference between the Malvasia wine obtained in Campidano area and the varietal obtained in Bosa area; the difference is not entirely due to the different climatic conditions but also to the existence of two different clones of this grape, arrived in Sardinia in two different areas.
There are actually two DOC varietals in Sardinia: Malvasia di Cagliari and Malvasia di Bosa, with different characteristics.
