The "Moscati" are a very large group of varieties, for sure among the most popular, of which there are traces and quotes in a lot of ancient documents. Greece is most likely their native land, and it was famous in ancient times for the production of sweet and aromatic wines.
The Greeks exported this variety in their Mediterranean colonies, including southern Italy and Magna Graecia, from where it spread in Etruscan and Roman central Italy.
It is assumed that Muscat could have been even the ancestor of all grapes, perhaps the first grape to be grown.
It is certain that many crosses and differentiations have been generated over the centuries, so that new genetic lines were born and have led to real varieties: White Muscat, Yellow Muscat, Pink Muscat, Black Muscat, Muscat of Alexandria, and others. It gets a cluster usually small, with spherical berries of medium size. It’s very rich in sugar while keeping a good acidity balance. The juice flavor is intense and delicate, typical of the variety. It’is one of the best aromatic grapes.
